The Journey through Potatoland |

We started our journey in Walleshausen near Geltendorf.
-
After learning all about potato, we went to Fürstenfedbruck, where we tried some of the meals.

Step 1 - The Process of Growing
- At the beginning some potatoes are kept at about 10C until they sprout.
- These potatoes are called "mothers" and are used as seeds.
Step 2 - The field
- In spring ghe "mothers" are planted on the fields.
- And then they are growing from April to August.
- In autumn they are ready to be harvested.
Step 3 - Cleaning and Sorting
- After the harvest the organic potatoes are brought to the farm.
- First, they are cleaned by a brushing machine.
- Then ones with mold or of the wrong size are sorted out by workers.
 
Step 4 - Storage
- Most of the potatoes are put on shelves in big boxes...
- ... and stacked in a huge depot
- Some potatoes are packed in small bags to be sold to stores directly
 
Step 5 - Delivery
- From the depot the potatoes are brought to wholesalers on the farm´s own "potato-truck"
Step 6 - Now lean back and enjoy!
- From the wholesalers the potatoes go to restaurants or stores
- TheGerman kitchen knows a lot of different dishes with potatoes,
- like potato soup,
- or even "kartoffel-Carpaccio"!
- And potatoes are also often used as a sidedish.
